In this small guide I will write about the basics of chaos portals, their function, how to make them, how to know if one is good and value.
First off Chaos Portal is a spell. You use it to cast on an item and make a random portal to one of many rooms on aardwolf. These rooms need to have the ability to have a portal land in them. Builders can flag rooms to block chaos portals from being able to be made to that room. The room you get is completely random, there is no way to predict what room it will go to unless you have a very special type of blank chaos portal which I will get into now.
There are 4 types of blank chaos portals. There is the normal generic blank chaos portal, a silvery blank chaos portal, a shiny platinum chaos portal, and a diamond chaos portal.
Blank Chaos Portal: These are the basic chaos portal ingredient. You cast chaos portal and it uses up one of these and turns it into a live chaos portal. You can get blank chaos portals from daily blessings, via merge chaos and as well as rewards for some epic activities. The best way to obtain a normal blank is to spend 5 tps at Ravi via tpspend bcp for one as it gives you a tiny chance at getting a special ingredient.
Silver Blank Chaos Portal: Pretty much same as above, except when casted it will ignore all continent rooms. You can get Silver Blanks from daily blessings or Ravi randomly when tpspend bcp. Must be navigator to cast on these.
Platinum Blank Chaos Portal: These are the first level of super awesome blank chaos portals. These will allow you to have a 50/50 chance at landing an unowned chaos portal in the room you are standing in. A navigator must cast, but being its unowned you can get a navigator friend to try for you. You can get these via daily blessing, tpspend bcp at Ravi, or via merge chaos.
Diamond Blank Chaos Portal: These are the cream of the crop, not only is it a 100% chance to land in the room you are in, but its also golden. Because of this, these are one of the most expensive items on Aardwolf based on worth. You can get these via daily blessing, tpspend bcp at Ravi, or via merge chaos.
Note: All blank chaos portals when casted on have a small chance of being golden, the diamond having a 100% chance. A golden chaos portal will allow you to use it during global quests. That makes golden chaos portals very important.
Im going to list worth of chaos portals incase you find yourself with one and want to sell it. Keep in mind these prices are as of March 10th 2025 and always can increase or decrease based on the TP economy.
Normal BCP: 55mil
Silver BCP: 70mil
Platinum BCP: 1-1.2bil
Diamond BCP: 3-3.9bil
Use for Chaos Portals:
Investing in chaos portals for your own use can be rewarding but ultimately probably not the best way to spend your wealth. It should be considered something you either begin early and build through the years or something you do after you are very deep into already having high potential, mastery, and instincts. If you do, there is two ways of going about collecting chaos portals. You can buy left over ones from people who sell, these method is gonna go slow as not a lot of people sell off large lists of chaos portals. Or you can buy them from Ravi yourself or via market or auction. What I like to do is collect like 20+ blanks and wait until right before I redo/remort and switch to Navigator. With the free weekly class change this is the way to go. Being Navigator allows you to not only cast on silver, platinum and diamond blanks but a navigator gets a one time re-roll on any chaos portal that lands in a continent, severely cutting down on “useless” chaos portals. I have personally bought about 1000 blank chaos portals from Ravi, I have gotten about 7 silver, 3 platinum, and 1 diamond. The rest have been normal so it is a real gamble for the special ingredients.
What makes a chaos portal location good:
As far as normal chaos portals, any one you make that saves you movement can be used for faster quests and campaigns. I only keep normal live cps that save me 10 movements. I consider each direction in a speedwalk as well as the use of a portal as 1 move when I tally which are good. I find sometimes in really large areas its worth it to have multiple to different parts of the area as long as they are more than 10 movements apart. Of course having your live be a golden cp makes it even nicer. I would try my best to keep those and not sell them as building a collection of them over the years will help with your GQ speed.
What do I do with “useless” chaos portals?:
Well you can sell ones that just go to places you already have. I like to form a mudbin of a list of areas, which room number it goes to and price I want. I usually try for 7tps as I get back 5tps and spend the extra 2 for the reown fee. You can reown any owned chaos portal for 2tps via the reown command. If you want to get rid of a bunch of useless continent ones, collect them in a pile and when you can find a 201 crafter with max stats. They will usually merge for you, which requires 4 chaos portals. They can then cast and make them into 1 new blank chaos portal. There is a slim chance to get the special ingredients via merge but I’ve never seen it. Crafters usually charge 1mil per merge with a 5mil per special ingredient tax.
What about all the normal chaos portals I set up in mapper, how do I GQ like this?:
This answer comes thanks to Sath. Sath has written a plugin called chaosmap. What it does is it organizes your chaos portals, makes sure they are mapped, and when a gq happens you can use an alias to set all the normal chaos portals to level 300 so it wont try to use them. This is incredibly useful and a must if you are going to venture into collecting chaos portals.
I would just like to specify again that this is all a gamble and it would take years to make back your gold/tps/qps spent on this endeavor. At some point you will also need to have multiple pocket wishes as you will eventually end up with ALOT of live chaos portals. I hope this has been an educational journey for you.
